Hi, my name is Puck. Some call me the wonder dog.  My foster loves me to death, and swears I’m just the most handsome boy ever.  I have rugged good looks that might remind you a little of the wolves I’m related to a long time ago, and I’m pretty tall for an Eskie.  I weigh about 30 pounds.

I’m a really curious boy that likes to check out what’s on the counter or table, but if you tell me to get down I will.   I love playing with my toys, and I have a couple of games that my owner packed in my bag when I came here.  Oh, and just ask me where the fly is…. I will hunt it down until I find him!  I can do tricks like high-five, shake, ring the bell when I want to go out, and my last owner said she could take me hiking off-leash, but we haven’t done that here at the foster home. Oh, and I LOVE pools….  I love, love, love playing in the water!

I may not do well with cats, I haven’t been tested.  I know I like other dogs, and kids-  well I do fine with babies and older kids for sure---  little little ones that walk I’m not so sure about, though I think I could learn to love them too. I live with three other dogs and a baby right now, and I get along great once.  Until I get a good idea of who’s boss, there was a growl or two. Now I play like best buds.

I am kind of skittish when I first meet people.  My very first owner, when I was a puppy, tried to train me not to jump by kicking me.  They didn’t know that they were training me to be scared too, and it didn’t work.  I need a gradual introduction to people.  My foster has been working with me on this, but we just don’t live around a lot of people.  We handle this by closing a gate between me and strangers when they come to visit so I feel safe.  Though I might be scared, you won’t know it.  I put on a brave face.  Once I get to know someone though, I am a lovey dovey boy.  Anyone who’s had a chance to get to know me will tell you I give kisses and just want to make you happy.

I need someone who can lovingly tell me what the rules are, continue to train me in new games and other fun ways to play.  I have a lot of energy, but can also entertain myself while you are at work.  When you get home though, I am all action and ready to wherever you want.  I travel well in the car, and like rides.  If you have a place that has a big yard or that isn’t in the heart of the city, I like that. A smaller house with it’s own yard is nice too, but I don’t think I’d like apartments.  There is too much going on. I will bark at strangers if they come to the house, and a little if they come in, but other than that I am quiet.  I go to my crate with a smile at night like a good boy, and won’t bark at you when it’s time to come out.

I feel so lucky to have found my special foster home, but really want to find my own furever home!

Love, Puck

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
