Diamond
The most awful day, again. Our dear sweet wonderful boneheaded Diamond Barker died this morning. She was 15. Doc said it was vestibular brain lesions. Our hearts are shattered. Big D came to us as a ERU foster about 3 years ago. She came with heartworms and a spay that had just been done and by the time we got her it was infected. She came with everything BUT manners! Omg she was a handful! Had a bark that would rattle the windows and never EVER came when she was called!!! Breakfast and dinner was game time, trying to get her in and somewhat quiet was a lost cause until recently. Age and declining health do that. But she was loyal to a fault and no one was ever going to get in her home and past her! She was everyone’s mama dog. If anyone was sick, Diamond was right there to mother them back to health. Only once did she have a cross word and it was for the Communist who, to this day, would bite Diamonds back legs as she walked by! Linda and Diamond both still bore the scars of that episode. Diamond started as a foster but no applications came in for a beautiful, sweet, loving, loyal, heartworm+, headstrong, senior girl with a lot of love to give and we adopted her. Her and I fell in love with each other ♥️ We are forever grateful that we did! Thank you ERU for rescuing this beautiful senior girl! Itsy Bitsy
It's been a difficult year, not one I ever would have expected. My mother who was 99 1/2 this year passed away in May and this morning I had to have Itsy Bitsy put to sleep. Both were terrible surprises, I didn't see either one coming. Even with my mother's age, she still lived alone and was quite "with it". She and Itsy had quite a connection and it was such fun to see them together. Bitsy was doing great until 2 days ago. She would run and play and carry on like a youngster, then suddenly 2 days ago, became a totally different dog. The vet confirmed congestive heart failure with a bad murmur which could be heard a foot away from her. She went to work with me for a couple of days and charmed everyone even though she wasn't feeling well. I knew this morning when I looked in her eyes that she was ready to let go. My vet and her staff are wonderful, very caring and quite attached to their "patients" so we all had a good cry as we said goodbye. I'm so grateful to have had Bitsy for as long as I did, she was amazing and such fun until the end. I wanted to let you know and thank you for bringing us together. After losing Bitsy (my first and only foster), I realize that it takes a very special person to be able to let go. Tango
Tango Stewart-Barker (on the right, with his girlfriend and love of his life, Cynda the day before she crossed to the Rainbow Bridge), the sweetest boy ever. We have to say goodbye soon. It doesn’t get easier no matter how many have come along before. The light has gone from his sparkling eyes. There’s no bounce in his step. The constant grinning smile is a frown now. There’s no greeting bark anymore. We didn’t officially adopt Tango like so many of our other long term fosters, for Tango didn’t and couldn’t belong to just one human. Tango adopted ALL of us, Kim Stewart and Lysa, Jim Schulz, Dyan Laphan, Mark Stewart Barker. We orbited around him like the blue moon in the Chagall. We have loved him without limits. Nothing was too much or too difficult as long as it was for Tango. Without question, we would all do it again. Because it’s Tango. Sweetest, happiest, goofiest, bobble head Tango........... All we wanted for Christmas was for Tango to hang in just a while longer, but it was just not to be. Our sweetest boy crossed The Rainbow Bridge this morning.........Denise and Mark Barker, December 18, 2019

Ellie Mae
Ellie Mae passed over the rainbow bridge on December 11, 2019. We were blessed to be called her family for 12 of her 19 years. She came to us July of 2007. She loved to roam our 2 1/2 acres of land and 'hang' with us on the couch. We will miss her terribly........ Michelle Reynolds Harris, December 14, 2019

Charlie
Charlie lost his home when his owner died, and was adopted as a senior and ADORED by his forever family. He passed away from cancer.......Walter Jensen, August 2019
