Daisy
It is with a very sad heart that Daisy left us today for the Rainbow Bridge. Our sweet peanut was just too sick to recover from spending one week in a high kill, overcrowded CA shelter. We suspect she came into the shelter sick, but she developed kennel cough and her health quickly deteriorated. A shelter is a difficult place for a healthy dog, it is a devastating place for one that is sick. The shelter put out an urgent rescue pull request. The picture of Daisy here is at the beginning of her stay. When we pulled her from the shelter she was practically comatose, couldn't hold her head up, was barely breathing and the transporter was concerned she wouldn't even be able to make it the 40 minutes to the vet. She was rushed to the ER instead for diagnostic tests, much needed fluids, antibiotics, and quiet rest. However, after 24 hours, the was no improvement and she was in fact worse. Daisy was in severe abdominal pain, possible left side pneumonia, nodules on her mammaries, a foul smell from nose and mouth, updated bloodwork was off the charts and her kidneys were in failure. The only kind decision was to end her suffering and say goodbye. Run free and wild, sweet girl. You were only with us 24 hours, but you were loved by many.........Eskie Rescuers, June 11, 2017.

Marley
And today we said goodbye to Tosh's bother Marley. This has been one of the hardest weeks. Marley had been making a gradual decline for about the last nine months, but it became obvious in the last week that the decline had accelerated. He was the more serious of our two pups. He was a protector by nature. But, he would play when Tosh shoved a toy in his face. We figure they are playing tug now at the Bridge. Run free and we'll see you again. Tosh
We said goodbye today to one of the loves of our lives. Tosh came to us from ERU with his brother (who is having his own set of issues) in December of 2005. He was a happy go lucky sort of dog on his 3 1/2 legs. I'm thankful that he had mostly good years with us and that his decline was relatively quick, 6-8 months of his 14 or 15 year life. Maggie
The kids in Maggie's family went away to school and no one wanted her anymore, so the owners dumped her in a local shelter. She came to Eskie Rescuers full of attitude and spunk, and enjoyed her time with her foster family. She especially loved the dog door and access to the fenced backyard, where she would sit outside and enjoy the sun on her back. Sadly, her heart, lungs and kidneys began to fail her and she started to suffer. Maggie never found her very own forever home, but her foster considered her "one of hers" and said she would be forever for her. We wish you could have spent more time with us, Maggie - but are grateful for the time we had with you. RIP........Helen Sanders, May 31, 2017
