![]() Penney's Farewell....... "I have only just begun to realize the depth and power of the gift that is a dog. Daily I realize that someday, one of us will lose the other. Instead of being alarmed, I find myself being more grateful for the love and companionship we share. The joy of today is worth the loss of tomorrow." (Jack Nelson Steward) Penney left me today, and peacefully crossed over the bridge. It was a difficult decision to make, but it was time, and she was tired and ready to go. A wise friend told me "Better a week too early than a week too late". Penney came into my life three years ago, after the loss of Molly and Muffin three weeks apart. I was bereft, and she healed my heart. She was my first foster for Eskie Rescuers, my first foster failure, and her legacy lives on in the Eskies I have rescued since she came into my life, and the many more Eskies in need I hope to save in the future. Penney helped evolve my love of the breed into commitment and action. "Countdown Penney" will continue to live on as Eskie Rescuers' mascot for their annual online auction. She will live on in my heart forever. Good bye, sweet girl. You are loved and you will be missed every day. Thank you for every minute we shared.......Dyan and Dennis Laphan, February 24, 2016 ![]() Coco Flockton 4/12/2001-1/29/2016 Coco came to ERU in spring 2009. He was a dog rescued from being chained out in a yard, and turned in to South Myrtle Beach Humane Society. He had heartworms and bad teeth. He was treated with the fast kill method, and given a dental with many extractions. ERU got him and he was staying with Kim Stewart, until she started her summer vacation. He was then transferred to me, Cathy Flockton, to become my latest foster. He did try to bite me, as a greeting, then warmed up to me a little more as the journey continued. He wouldn't tolerate much handling, and a pedicure was his worst nightmare. He met very few people, or dogs, that he liked. But, if he did like you, he might have allowed a little pat or two! It was very apparent he could not be adopted, so he became a sponsor only dog. After the passing of my own eskimo dog, Kodi, I made Coco my boy. He loved fish, especially salmon, and enjoyed smoked salmon on top of his chow as his days became numbered. He had neurological issues, and died following a seizure episode. He will always be cherished! ![]() Piper came to me 5 years ago, a shy, timid, little girl who had lost her puppyhood and youth to a backyard breeder. She was afraid of cars, people, sudden noises and loud voices. But she was the most loyal, sweetest adorable little cuddler who never left my side. Eventually she came out of her shell. She took a “tricks and skills” class and she learned how to fetch and jump through a hoop; she had to be taught to “find” food on the kitchen floor. I enrolled her in the K-9 Compassion course and she might have passed but she failed the “sudden loud noise” test. But that was OK…she loved her evening walks with me and the neighbors and the neighbor’s dogs. Everyone loved her. About one and a half years ago after her left leg seemed to be dragging, a veterinary visit preliminary diagnosed her with degenerative spinal deformity. The next 18 months were spent with various treatments, pills, vet visits, and massage therapy, but it was inevitable that this cruel fate would overtake her. She lost her ability to use her back legs and eventually her entire lower body was paralyzed. But she tried, so so hard, to be normal. She had to be picked up to be moved anywhere and then….. it was time to make the decision…….Rest in peace, you precious little sweetheart; you can run and jump and play now like all the other little doggies. I love you so much, wait for me, Mom ![]() Taffy, our beloved Eskie and friend, made the journey over the rainbow bridge Saturday, December 3rd, 2011. He lived a long life and left us just before his 16th birthday. He was always a sweet, happy Eskie who liked everyone he met. The past year was a difficult one for all of us as Taffy's health degenerated. No matter how tired, sick, or in pain he was, he always made the best of every situation and continued fighting until the very end. He had a strong heart and a drive to continue living on this earth with the foster family turned adopters he loved so much and who loved him just as much in return. We are blessed to have shared his life for the last 3 years and will miss his joyful presence and his smile. He has left us with the fondest of memories and the best advice – a positive attitude is your best defense in the face of adversity. We miss you, Taffy, and will forever cherish our memories of you. We love you so much. ![]() It is with a sad and heavy heart that we have to say Goodbye to Bobo today. He had a great morning at the pet parade with his brother Bailey. It happened quick, his heart went in to overtime and he had respiratory failure. He could not get enough oxygen. So I made the hard decision to not let him suffer. Goodbye to a brave happy little soul. He was well loved and will be missed......Arlene Young, November 7, 2015 Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
