Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hi, my name is Bella. I'm a really cute and spunky toy sized American Eskimo dog. I'm a tiny bit of a mix breed because I have a little bit of brown behind my ears, and my tail doesn't curl. It just stands up straight. But hey, it's easier to see me while I run cause I have my tail which bobs like a white flag waving. I'm about 12 lbs, but I'm a little taller than your typical toy eskie cause my legs are long. I can run FAST. I like to chase and bark at cars, so I'd probably be best in a quiet country setting. I also get a little nervous in noisy and new situations cause I'm such a little thing in a big world! When you first bring me home, I'll need some time to calm down and relax. I can get a little nippy if I'm startled, but my foster dad says that it's not a problem since I've really calmed down since I first got to his place. I love to sit in my foster dad's lap, and I enjoy playing with his other male eskie. I tend to be a pushy little girl around other dogs, so it would be best if you didn't have another pack leader dog. I'm pretty much housetrained, but I have to let you know that I've had some struggles in the past with a urinary tract infection. That's what my foster dad says, but I really don't understand what a urinary thingy is. All I know is that I had to take a pill every day for a few weeks. I'm all better now. I really try not to go in the house but I can't hold it more than 4 or 5 hours at a time. I really wanted to please my foster dad, so I stopped drinking as much water, but he says that's bad for me. He makes me drink more so that I don't get that urinary thingy again. I'm still a young pup, so maybe with time I'll get better at this sort of thing. If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact my foster dad Jim. You can also visit our website and sign-up to fill out an adoption application and learn more about our adoption process. Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg. If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). There is an adoption fee required, and please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF!
