UPDATE AS OF APRIL 7, 2017 - LOUIE HAS AN ADOPTION PENDING
Louis (Lou-ey), named for the French monarchy, is a little king in his own right. This 16 pound dog just has so much pride and pomp in everything he does!
Louis loves all people and gets along with most dogs, though he does make sure they know it's his world, he just permits others to live in it. He loves children and would do well in a house with older kids to shower attention on and watch over. He is a little wary of strangersand he likes to make sure any visitors go through his vetting process before being accepted into the household. Louis very much likes to be the alpha dog so an experienced dog owner who is comfortable providing boundaries is a must.
Louie is quite active and energetic and he LOVES to run and explore. A fenced yard is required in order to adopt Louie.
A family of women he could "protect" would the perfect match for Louis. Would be fine with a family that works outside of the home as he enjoys down time by himself. Louie gets along well with older children and other dogs. We would not recommend a house with infants or cats.
Louie is heartworm positive and is being treated by the gentle kill method. Please read this link to better understand heartworm disease and its treatment: http://www.eskierescuers.org/info/display?PageID=11624 It is imperative that Louie be on heartworm preventative every month for the rest of his life, and he be tested annually. While this is standard care practice, in Louie's case is is absolutley required.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.
If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers. There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
