My name is Ashton...Ashe for short and I am the most loving, happy Eskie you will ever meet. But, unfortunately, I can not find my forever home yet because of my leg. I really need to have surgery on it but it is very expensive and the funds at ERU are not large enough to cover my expense as well as all the other wonderful dogs in foster care. I need a special angel who feels I'm worth jumping and playing like other dogs without their leg hurting. Wouldn't you like to help a fella like me? I would love to find my forever home, too, someday. This is not a hereditary thing. My vet says it's just "bad luck". Well, I'm hoping that my luck will change with some loving people to contribute to my surgery. More about AshtonGood with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids Special Needs: Ashton has severe degenerative joint disease on the front "ankle" joint and also the back hind ankle joint. The front paw is held up 80% of the time (without his meds) and although he never, never complains, the vet said it is hurting him. He is on three different medications for pain as well as glucosamine/chondtroitin. This will be necessary for the rest of his life unless he has surgery. Surgery is a possibility on the front paw where the joint bones would be "welded" and he would be able to use his leg and be in no pain; however, he would walk like he has a peg-leg. Surgery estimates are between $2,500 and $3,000. Ashe has been on medication since being in foster care and it has helped him tremendously. The medications have eased the pain somewhat and he forgets that he has a bad "ankle". In the morning, however, he holds up his paw again as the medications have to be given every 12 hours. Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. |
