Welcome smart and handsome Benji to the R’Eskie Ranch in Maryland!

Benji is a five-year-old, 26-pound energetic eskie boy who had a rough start, being confined to a crate for much of the day and then taken to a clinic to be euthanized when he no longer fit into the family’s work schedules and lease limitations.

Fortunately for all of us, the clinic reached out to ERU.  They say it takes a village, and we are enormously grateful to all those involved who changed the course of Benji’s life for the better. Thanks to all their efforts, Benji’s life was spared, and he is now living the life at the ranch.

Once at the ranch, we hired a gifted and compassionate trainer, Hannah, at baltimoreK9tutors, who is very familiar with eskies and appreciates their intelligence and charm, to help Benji be the best boy. This has also helped me gain confidence, as we are all senior and special needs here at the ranch, and having an energetic, relatively young eskie was a challenge.

The attached video includes clips of Hannah teaching Benji the “1-2-3” pattern game, progressing from off- to on-leash in my fenced yard, to on-leash outside. Benji loves his daily walks but gets a little too excited when seeing other dogs out and about. “1-2-3” is a tool for Benji to be focused on his human companion when encountering distractions.

Benji will be available for adoption in a few more weeks. We are looking for an adopter(s) that will keep up with his training, and give him the opportunity for plenty of exercise, both of which he thoroughly enjoys. We love you Benji and are so glad you’re with ERU!

Good with Dogs

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
