I was very afraid for most of my life and it wasn't an easy life either. You see, I had puppies, over and over again, in a place called a puppymill. I stayed in a cage all day, I didn't get very much to eat and sometimes they would throw another dog in my cage with me. Sometimes he hurt me. I try not to remember those days because I never have to live like that again! When that place closed, an angel lady called Vet Mindy talked the people into letting me go with her. She kept me in her clinic and made sure I was well and got all my vaccinations (ouch! those stung) and then she did something called surgery and fixed some of my teeth. Then I got a bath - I wasn't sure about that. There were other animals there and some had come from those places, just like me. Most of them went to another place called a shelter where people come to see you. But, they were full so I stayed with Vet Mindy. She worried about me and sent something called an email to Eskie Rescuers United. The Lady Vet told me someone wanted me and I would be traveling to a new state and a new home. I didn't know what a home was but it sure sounded nice! That traveling part made me scared! So many different people and a crate that moved. One night I even stayed in a place called a hotel - even if it was just a bathroom. The next day I went on a different type of transport with a lot of other dogs. Then, just as I was starting to get afraid again, the truck stopped and I was handed to a lady that rubbed my ears and kissed me! I didn't know what to do; I'd never been held and hugged like that before. The lady said she was my new foster Mommy and I had arrived at my new 'foster' home. That's a place where people take care of you and love you until you get one of your very own. When we got there, she hugged me some more and held me in her lap all night. I got special doggie meatloaf and kibble in a bowl of my very own and no one took it away from me. When it was time to go to sleep, I had a soft pillow and blanket in a pretty blue crate with soft walls. This foster stuff is really wonderful but I have a bunch of stuff to learn. I've never been in a house before or worn a necklace called a collar or had a leash that attached to the collar. She told me once I learned all about these things, there are people called a family that would want to give me a home of my very own - and they would love me and it would be forever. But, for right now, I need to study hard and learn so, if you could help ERU, they'll help keep me healthy until I go to my furever home. Won't you please help? Thank you, Vet Mindy and thank you, ERU !
