Buddy loves to play catch with the ball, and even has the manners to return the ball for you to throw it again. He also enjoys squeaky toys and the occasional treat. He doesn't eat much, barely eating one cup of dry food a day. He is waiting to be neutered, but is housebroken and he also uses the dog door here, but also loves to go for walks.

[UPDATE: As of today, 5 July 2008, Buddy has been neutered, has completed his antibiotic round of heartworm treatment, and has had his 3rd heartworm pill (of 12), again, for treatment of his heartworm. He is easily eating 1.5 to 2 cups of his dry food a day. He is constantly playing, with his doggie power naps in between. He even let me cut his fingernails without a single bit of fuss!]

He is nervous around humans, and will nip at ankles and shoes if a stranger near him moves too fast. He loves to be petted, and will roll over readily to get his belly and chest scratched. While being petted, he sometimes growls, almost as if he was purring, except he is a dog and can't purr. At times when he is excited, he growls almost as if talking to you. He has not made one attempt to bite his foster parents, though it did take him longer to warm up to his foster daddy.

He had three playmates when he arrived, though he still does not make too much of an attempt to play with them (see update above 7/5/08). He came from a home where he lived for his entire life, save a few months, and I feel he is still grieving his previous family. Everyday, he becomes more confident and playful with both his human and his doggie family.

Buddy has also been to the groomers, as his former parents were smokers. He arrived a dull yellow and came out bright white. He did well at the groomers, who did not muzzle him at any time to work on him. For a physical exam at the vet's, he was muzzled, but did well without one for his x-rays.

Buddy has tested positive for heartworms. Eskie Rescuers United (ERU) follows the slow-treatment protocol to kill heartworms. Buddy has been treated with 30 days of doxycycline and started on once/month heartworm preventative (either Tri-Heart Plus or Heartgard Plus). ERU will provide the adoptive family with the remaining time of his 1 full year of heartworm preventative medicine and will pay for a follow-up heartworm test one year after treatment has begun.

Good with Dogs

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
