Update Feb 4th:  Trucker is ready to go to his forever home.  This lively young dog would thrive with older children that love to toss balls or Frisbees to him.  He won't return them but it's still fun.  Anything his family can do to burn off the energy would be terrific.  He is fully crate trained and likes his wire crate.  He never fusses except in the morning when it's time to go outside.  He does love being with his person especially if you are trying to get something accomplished.  Trucker loves to "help".  Trucker has learned if he wants attention he comes and sits by me.  NO jumping.

Trucker does have the Eskie trait of "wait and see" when he meets new people.  He justs barks until he feels secure.  Once secure you will have a loving, kissing Eskie on your lap.

Since his neutering about two weeks ago Trucker has not marked in the house.  He is trust worthy except for grabbing a few unauthorized toys.

Trucker is a little wild on the leash but the weather in Maine has been so brutally cold I have not walked him a lot.  The leash training will come with time and kinder temperatures.

Trucker Needs A Fence!
Trucker is a champion of leaping up and over things.  His home should have a tall fenced area for him.  From a sitting position he easily reaches 4 1/2 feet.  The fence does not have to be super strong but it must be very tall.  An underground fence probably wouldn't contain him and he certainly wouldn't return just to be re-zapped with the control collar.

Update Jan 7th:  I'm beginning to think Trucker is much younger than two.  He still has a lot of puppy ways that need constant attention so he doesn't get in trouble.  When partly contained with the other dogs in the den I was feeling pretty smug when Trucker only played with authorized toys.  Today the five Eskies had the run of the house and Trucker snatched up anything that looked like fun.  He seems to like plastic and that's something easily chewed, swallowed but not passed through the GI tract well.  He also gets over excited playing and puppy mouths my arm.  It doesn't hurt but it's another habit to break.  His new family should have young dog experience so they know what they are getting into.  Trucker does have to be crated when I can not watch him.  The big plus about Trucker is his people friendly, happy personality.  No work needed there.

Trucker has fit right in with the other five dogs here.  He is very playful, not dominant and loves to chase and be chased in the backyard.  He is far too young to not be engaged in some kind of play with another dog.

Children:  The couple who took him in said he was a little too much for her four year old.  Older, respectful children would do fine with him.

Cats:  Trucker is much more respectful of my cats.  He still runs up to say "hello" but knows to hit the brakes before getting within striking distance.

December 18, 2012 Trucker was diagnosed positive with both Anaplasmosis and Lyme disease.  These are common tick borne diseases treated with antibiotics - in this case doxycycline for 30 days.  ERU will pay for the Anaplasmosis and Lyme retests six months after Trucker finishes the doxycycline.  Trucker finishes his doxycycline on January 16, 2013.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
