I'm the prettiest, sweetest little girl and I'm looking for a special person or family who will spoil me and love me and help make up for some rough times I've had in my former life. I have a thin coat that is easy to care for, and I love to be brushed and fussed over. I was picked up by animal control because I was lost or abandoned to the streets. I must have been roaming for quite some time because my rescuer and my foster mom say I'm all "skin and bones." I'm so happy to be in a safe place and fed lots of good yummy food. Oh, and a soft bed--WOW, that is just too cool !!! I weighed just 14 pounds when I first came into foster care, but I've gained 4 pounds in the short time I've been here, and that's really good! (For my height, I should be 20-21 pounds at least.) I have a very healthy appetite, but because I had to fend for myself on the streets, I'm a little protective of my food. If another dog tries to take my dinner, I let them know that I don't put up with that. If you have other dogs, you might need to work with me on this behavior. I would really do best in a home with no other dogs to compete with. Sometimes I am nice to my foster brothers and sisters, and sometimes I am really mean to them. I am not like this with my people, just the other doggies. (I think they're trying to steal my humans' attention from me.) I'm housebroken, leash-trained and crate-trained. I love to go for walks and for rides in the car, but my favorite thing in the world to do is to cuddle and snuggle up with my humans - I'm very sweet and affectionate. I don't pay much attention to toys, but you do want to give me proper things to chew. I might have been neglected and bored in my former life and I wore down some of my teeth, perhaps from chewing on the hard wires of a cage. I do well in a crate, but it should have fluffy soft bedding and be constructed so that I can't get my mouth between the bars to chew on them. My foster mom says I can be trusted at home when you're there with me, and I don't need to be restricted to a pet-gated area. But I do like my crate or my own bed when you're gone from the house--I feel safe there. I will do best in a quiet home as an only pet, or with other quiet, submissive pets. Active, dominant dogs are too much for me. Gentle children are fine. I'm very friendly with well-mannered children who are kind to me, but fast movements and active youngsters scare me a bit. I would be great for a single person or couple that lives in a condo or apartment, since I walk so well on leash and I never seem to need to run around the yard. I do my business and get back onto the concrete, with no zooming around the yard. I'm too dignified for that kind of behavior! Also I don't bark much, which is very unusual for my breed. Wouldn't you love to give a special little girl like me a chance at a forever home? I promise to give you all my love in return. If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Kim and Jeff at: kim@eskierescuersunited.org. You can also click here to fill out an adoption application for me. Whenever possible, Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). There is a $150 adoption fee required, and please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Lots of Eskie hugs and kisses! and#9829;Shelbyand#9829;
