Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hi, my name is Sparkee, though I also respond to the name Chester. (Because ERU recently had another foster dog also named Chester, they're calling me Sparkee so they won't get confused!) I'm a miniature-sized American Eskimo male, approximately 10 years old, who weighs 17 pounds. I have some hearing loss, but I make up for it by keeping my eyes wide open and trotting all around in case something happens that I should know about. I would make a great companion for an older person, and I am eligible to be adopted for a lower fee through Eskie Rescuers United's "New Leash on Life" Senior program. (To find out more about this program, please go to: Senior Eskies and Senior Humans.) I'm neutered, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I've learned how to do my business outside, but I still have an occasional tinkle accident inside, especially when I get excited to see my foster mommy and daddy! I can open screen doors, and I know how to use a doggy door too. I love to take walks, and I stay very close to whoever is leading me. I was rescued from a back yard near Philadelphia, where I was neglected for many years. I was never treated for fleas, so I had terrible skin problems and lots of bald patches--I looked pretty funny, because I have lots of freckles! But after months of treatment and loving care from my foster mommy, my hair finally started growing in, and now it's almost completely grown back. Now my coat is pure snow white, and it's so soft it feels like clouds! I get along with other dogs, and with cats too. I'm generally pretty easygoing all around. Since I've been with my foster family, I've learned what treats are, and how to run and play with other dogs! Most of all, I love curling up next to somebody who will pet me and scratch me around the neck--ooooh, I LOVE that! Nobody ever petted me before, so this whole love thing is new to me. So far, my foster mommy thinks I'm doing pretty well. I'm very sweet and will love anyone who will give me the affection and attention I never received before. Wouldn't you love to have me in your home and give me a chance at a wonderful life? I think I deserve it after such a hard life! I'm waiting for my new forever family--will that be you? If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Wanda at: wanda@eskierescuersunited.org. You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me. Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Woodstock, VA with my foster mommy, Claudia. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). There is a $150 adoption fee required, and please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! and#9829;Sparkeeand#9829;
