About Tanner!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 04-184
Hi, my name is Tanner! I'm a standard-sized American Eskimo boy, approximately 2 years old and weighing 26 pounds. I'm a little underweight for my size, probably because my previous owners didn't look after me very well. They used to let me roam free all around the neighborhood, and then decided to move away and just leave me behind! I can't imagine why anyone would want to abandon a handsome guy like me who is also so very sweet and playful!

I'm recently neutered, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention, as well as on flea and tick prevention. I'm almost fully housebroken, and that's getting better and better since my neutering. My foster daddy has been working with me very diligently on this and thinks I've shown a lot of improvement in just a few days! I'm crate and kennel trained, though I might cry for a short while before I settle down and go to sleep.

I'm a very playful guy who just LOVES playing with my foster daddy's other dogs. I'm very energetic and high-spirited, and boy, do I like to run! Because of this, my new home HAS to have a fenced-in yard, so I don't take off to explore my new neighborhood, like I used to do before. But I DO need a yard to run around in and get my exercise, so a home with a fence really is necessary. I'd also like to be in a home that has at least one other dog who will play and cut up with me, but who isn't aggressive, because I'm so friendly and sociable. Because of my high energy level, I probably would not be well suited for a family with small children or cats, but older kids or teenagers who can spend time with me and rassle around with me would be ideal! :o) I also like to play with my toys and my chew bones, and I enjoy going for car rides too.

Because my previous owners didn't spend the time with me they should have, I will definitely need some obedience training. I'm having a little trouble grasping the concept of "No" or "Sit" or "Stay," but my foster daddy is trying to help me in that respect. He says I'll need to be with a family who can show some patience with me while I'm learning these new things. He thinks I'm just the most affectionate guy in the world (probably because I was so neglected by those other people!) and will do anything to get attention and those belly rubs I love so much. I also LOVE to give him kisses all the time!

If you are interested in me, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad" if I'm not local to you. This is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain distance to get me to you! I'm in Centreville, VA with my foster daddy, Bill. If you would like to know more about me, please send an e-mail right away!

Please contact Leah at: leah@eskierescuers.org for more information on me!

You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuers.org and fill out an adoption application for me!

Thank you and WOOF!

More about Tanner!

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
