Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hey, there! Our names are Starsky and Hutch, and to help you tell the difference between us and those TV or movie guys, just remember--WE'RE the better-looking ones! :o) We're 3-year old standard-sized American Eskimo brothers who weigh 23 and 27 pounds, respectively. We're VERY special guys, because we're such close friends and really need to be adopted together. We're special needs dogs because, you see, Hutch has all 4 of his legs. I, Starsky, am the normal one, with my 3-1/2 legs (the vet thinks I was born that way, which makes me normal, right?)! I let Hutch think he's looking after me and protecting me, to build up his ego! HeHe! We were just neutered and we're current on all our vaccinations. We just found out that I (Starsky) am heartworm positive, so I have to go through heartworm treatment before we can be adopted. Thankfully Hutch is heartworm negative, and I know he'll make sure I get the best of care! He's really super that way! We're pretty much housebroken, though we still get that urge to mark our territory occasionally, which will improve over time as our testosterone levels decrease after our "surgery." We're learning to walk on leashes, but because we were probably never taken for walks before, we get so excited by all those enticing new smells that sometimes we get our leashes tangled up. We LOVE to go for rides in the car. We're SO well-behaved you won't even remember we're in the car until Hutch happens to sit up and take a peek at what's going on outside the car. We are such sweethearts that we get along with everybody and everything. We love playing with other dogs, and when cats come up to us and brush up against us, we don't even mind. Though we may act a little timid when we first meet new people, we quickly warm up to them and then all we want is to be fussed over by them--and give them lots of Eskie kisses in return! I (Starsky) am so lucky because I have my big brother Hutch who loves me and watches over me. He's always looking out for me to make sure no one tries to hurt me or mess with me. And you know how I thank him? I jump on top of him and try to wrestle and play with him! (Well, that's what brothers do, after all.) We also eat out of the same bowl together, even when we're given separate food bowls! I truly love my big bro, and I couldn't imagine living without him, so please understand how important it is that we find a new home together. We are both as loving and affectionate dogs as you'll EVER find, so if you want someone(s) in your life to become your best friends, look no further, because we're right here waiting for you! All you need to do is fill out an adoption application for us--and, of course, love and cherish us forever and ever. We promise you'll never regret it! (We sure hope you'll be willing to wait for me to get through my heartworm treatment, but if you're looking to get a new best friend right away, there are plenty of us Eskies available in Eskie Rescuers United foster homes right here in Tennessee. Just look for them here on Petfinder.) If you're interested in us and would like more information, please contact Liz at: liz@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail our foster mommy directly at: JTackettzoo@aol.com. You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for us. There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where we're being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. We're in Knoxville, TN with our foster mommy, Janie. To get us to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If we're not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on us, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get us to you safely (for example, flying us to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive us to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! Starsky and Hutch!
