This lovely sweet fun little eskie girl arrived into Maryland from California on July 17th.  Spirit is full of life and brings so much joy.  She is wonderful with all other creatures and loves to cuddle, cuddle, cuddle.  She gets around very well even though she is seeing impaired.  She is a very happy little girl and does not have any idea that she is impaired in any way.  She snuggles up with Scooby on my bed and he makes sure she is safe during the night.  I'll be taking her to the ophthalmologist for a proper diagnosis soon.  A very special person will want to bring this little doll into their home.  If that is you please e-mail me Heidi@eskierescuers.org

I have uploaded a short clip of Spirit and Scooby playing.  Enjoy!

Diagnoses from ophthalmologist on 7/28/15: Bilateral ocular dysgenesis: microphthalmos, cataracts, ectopic pupils; retinal dysplasia left eye; posterior synechia left eye; bilateral iris stromal atrophy.

"Her vision should be close to normal in left eye.  The cataracts are insignificant at this time but there is potential for the cataracts to worsen.  The left eye would not be a candidate for surgery but the right eye could be operated if vision were threatened.  If surgery is not an option and the cataracts are progressing I recommend longterm treatment with topical antiinflammatory drops."

Special Needs: Seeing and hearing impaired

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
